SUSTAINABILITY

CREATING CLOTHES WITH CARE

Goldbergh is passionate about creating clothes with care. It’s more important than ever to be aware of, and minimise human impact on the environment. We’ve worked hard to make sure that sustainability is stitched into every step of our production process, from protecting the people involved, to ensuring the materials we use are both humane and sustainable. We believe that it is within everyone’s power to make the positive changes that will protect our world for future generations.

PROTECTING WORKERS' RIGHTS

We believe that everyone has the right to safe, fair working conditions, and we keep a close eye on our production process to make sure it provides both. Over 20 years we’ve built relationships with suppliers we can trust, who share our values. As a guarantee, every supplier signs Goldbergh’s strict code of conduct, designed to protect the rights of our workers in the garment industry. Our code of conduct includes: no discrimination, no child and forced labor, freedom to unionise, a living wage, and health and safety guidelines.

BSCI CERTIFIED

Every factory we work with is certified by the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). This means they’re subject to surprise spot checks every year, by an independent party, to ensure working conditions, including wages, hours, and the work environment meet requirements.

RESPECTING ANIMAL WELFARE

Animal welfare is incredibly important to us. That’s why Goldbergh only uses down that is Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certified. All RDS down is sourced from animals that were farmed for the food industry, on humane farms. Meaning the down is a byproduct that would otherwise be thrown away. In our fillings, we use duck down and occasionally goose down. Goldbergh is also very conscious of where we source fur.

SAFEGUARDING THE PLANET

We choose our fabrics from the most sustainable sources possible, including recycled fabrics and synthetic fibres. For example, polyester is made from PET bottles. We’re committed to increasing our use of more recycled fabrics as soon as they become available. We’re also proud to announce that Goldbergh will introduce a program with recycled fabrics in F/W 2020.

For filling, aside from down we use Primaloft Eco, which is made of 70% post-consumer recycled material. Suppliers of trimmings, like labels, zippers and hangtags, are constantly developing more sustainable solutions. We are always checking in to see if there are new developments for appropriate alternatives.

Under European legislation, all fabrics and trims we use must comply with REACH regulations (registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals), and the restricted substances list, which determines which chemicals are forbidden, or limited. We test regularly to ensure our fabrics, furs and trims are well within the recommended limits, and remain safe for the environment, even during washing.
